Enter: Coach Mike Hay
Mike Hay is from Coldwater, Ohio. He was a great offensive lineman for Coldwater HS at 6’2, 245 lbs. On top of working O-Line drills, he developed another skill that is often overlooked by coaches at the HS level. The skill was longsnapping. Mike walked on at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, then earned a scholarship pretty quickly with that extra skill he worked on. Mike is seen here playing his senior season in November of 2006. BSU almost upset the, then, #2 team in the nation, but fell short by 8 points. After the season, Hay was asked to go to an NFL camp from the Detroit Lions, as well as the Chicago Bears. He picked the Bears and had an awesome camp.
Mike Hay will be the first to tell you that he didn’t make the team because of the veteran snapper that has snapped there over 15 years. But Hay definitely deserved a spot on a roster after his performance. His snaps were tight spirals, with great accuracy, and of course quick, consistent times.
This is a picture of Mike Hay’s locker while he was with the Bears. After camp, Mike quickly ventured into his career, teaching and coaching. He has been coaching football and baseball at Mt. Dora HS in Florida over the last 3 years.
Just this past season he was promoted as the Offensive Coordinator with his creative, offensive schemes and development of players. His coaching ability earned him the Offensive Coordinator position for the Central Florida HS All Star Football Game.
Along with turning into an offensive coaching genius, Hay knows his share of special teams. Since working with Team Jackson Kicking he has helped not only longsnappers, but kickers and punters with his expertise. He knows a lot about the recruiting world as his quartback has some strong offers, including Alabama and Miami.
Mike will be attending Team Jackson Kicking’s Clinic on January 28, 2012 in Dothan, AL. He will be working with longsnappers ages 9-19. Don’t miss your opportunity to work with Coach Hay and other TJK Coaches at this clinic. To sign up with the PRE rate, check out www.teambjackson.com.
